The alpaca trek that follows is meditative by design: a slow walk through open Andean landscape, at altitude, in near silence, alongside animals that the Inca considered sacred. By the time you reach the lagoon, the city feels genuinely far away.
Then comes Chinchero and the weaving. The artisan women here carry a textile tradition that predates the Spanish conquest. From the lagoon, the journey continues to Chinchero, where master weavers open their workshop for a hands-on session in ancestral textile art. The demonstration covers the full process preparing alpaca fiber, dyeing with cochinilla (a natural crimson dye from cactus insects), molle, and chillca plants, then spinning and weaving on a back-strap loom.
